There are
no specific antiviral medicines for dengue.
Treatment of acute dengue is supportive, using either oral or intravenous
rehydration for mild or moderate disease, and intravenous fluids and blood
transfusion for more severe cases.
There are not
yet any vaccines to prevent infection with dengue virus.
Maintenance
of the patient's circulating fluid volume is the central feature of dengue
hemorrhagic fever (DHF) care.
Paracetamol
is recommended to easy the fever and pain symptoms. Aspirin is not used because
it can affect blood clotting.
