Radioactive iodine (radioiodine) helps to slow the production of thyroid hormones.

Sometimes surgery or radiation therapy is needed to remove the thyroid gland.

Carbimazole is a common drug used in some European countries but it must be carefully used because of serious side effects. Beta-blockers can be prescribed to treat several symptoms, including tachycardia.
