No definitive treatment regimens have been determined.
Antibiotics are the primary treatment and can cure most cases of Lyme disease.
The most appropriate antibiotic treatment depends upon the patient and the stage
of the disease. Oral antibiotics may be
sufficient for early stages of non-disseminated infection.
At the end of the treatment, some symptoms may still last. This is called
post-Lyme disease syndrome (PLDS).
The cause of
these symptoms is not known, but they are not related to an ongoing infection
with the bacteria.
