Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs), had been adopted as first-line
treatment in many countries.
The primary objective of treatment is to ensure a rapid and complete elimination
of the Plasmodium parasite from the patient’s blood. It includes:
- Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs), for the treatment of
uncomplicated malaria caused by the P. falciparum parasite.
- Chloroquine. It is used to treat infections caused by the P. vivax parasite.
- Artesunate, which is administered for severe cases of malaria.
