Description
Pancreatic cancer is a type of cancer in which malignant cells form in the tissues of the pancreas. Unfortunately, the disease usually does not show first symptoms making it difficult to diagnose early.
Diagnosis
In order to confirm the diagnosis, several of the procedures below are combined:
• Physical exam and history
• Biopsy
• CT scan
• MRI scan
• Pet scan
• Laparoscopy
• Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
• Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC)
• Blood analysis (bilirubin high and low levels are indicators of pancreas failure)
• Abdominal ultrasound
• Endoscopic ultrasound
