Description
Sarcoidosis, also called sarcoid, is a systemic inflammatory disease in which inflammatory cells (or granulomas) form as nodules. It can affect any organ but is most common in the lungs.
The causes of sarcoidosis are unknown. There's no cure for sarcoidosis.
Sarcoidosis can be asymptomatic. If symptoms appear, they will show up depending on which organs are affected. In most cases it clears up on its own, but some cases require medical intervention.
Diagnosis
The following tests and procedures are commonly used to confirm the diagnosis:
- Chest X-ray
- CT scan
- Endoscopy
- Biopsy
